Most test-day problems have nothing to do with English. A simple checklist removes the surprises so your preparation can show in your score.
The week before
- Read the official ETS rules for your test format and test centre, including what you may bring.
- Check that the name on your ID matches your registration exactly.
- Take one last full timed test at the same time of day as the real one.
- Stop learning new strategies. Review your notes instead.
The night before
- Prepare your ID and confirmation details.
- Plan your route or, for an at-home test, check your computer, room and connection against the official requirements.
- Sleep is worth more than one more hour of practice.
On the day
- 01Eat a normal meal and arrive or log in early.
- 02Warm up with five minutes of English: read a short article aloud.
- 03In Reading and Listening, protect the first stage: steady and careful.
- 04In Speaking, answer, give a reason and an example, then stop.
